Climate Change-River Catchment Planning
German contribution Bavarian Environment Agency (Bayerisches Landesamt für Umwelt (LfU) Type of Organisation: Federal State Central AgencyResponsibility: The Bavarian Environment Agency (Landesamt für Umwelt (LfU) is the central agency for all issues relating to the protection of the environment, geology and water management in Bavaria, south Germany.
Role in ESPACE: One of the great challenges facing the Bavarian Environment Agency is the question of how to adapt to the consequences of climate change. The central element of the LfU contribution to the ESPACE project is the case study ¿Fränkische Saale¿, which attempts to provide both the analytical basis and a comprehensive strategy for the development of adaptation measures in the field of flood protection. One important aspect of the case study is the holistic approach, taking economic, ecological and socio-cultural impacts of climate change into account. Another vital element is the communication strategy, aimed at raising awareness among the general public and involving stakeholders in all stages of the flood mitigation planning process.
